The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing an effective and efficient justice system for all Tasmanians.
I am pleased to announce that Tasmanian architectural firm, ARTAS Architects, has been appointed to design and oversee construction of the new $15 million Burnie Court Complex on Mooreville Rd.
ARTAS Architects has a 30-year history in Tasmania and was awarded the contract following an extensive tender process.
We have committed to delivering a modern, fit-for-purpose court complex on the University of Tasmania site after a thorough assessment of the current court building in Alexander St found that redevelopment was not feasible.
As part of our COVID-19 pandemic response, $5.9 million of our Government’s $15 million investment has been brought forward to enable work to start as soon as possible.
The relocation will ensure minimal interruption to service delivery and will provide better access to justice for those in the North West by enabling the long-term continuation of a broad range of Magistrate and Supreme Court services in Burnie.
Thorough consultation with stakeholders will ensure that the new facility meets the needs of the Courts, court users and the community.
Consultation and planning will continue throughout 2021 with a contractor for the construction expected to be appointed in 2022.
