The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong backer of our building and construction industry and we will continue to put in place the right conditions to support the sector.
Building industry experts, legal practitioners, community representatives and technical advisers are being sought to join a pool of experts to help adjudicate disputes between home owners and builders.
The pool of experts will play an important role in Consumer, Building and Occupational Services’ (CBOS) alternative dispute resolution process.
The process has been designed to help reduce red tape, and make it easier and more efficient for people building in Tasmania.
Through the process, people involved in disputes regarding residential building work in contracts worth more than $20,000 can apply to CBOS for a free mediation service.
Should mediation not be successful, and the building work has been completed less than 12 months prior, an owner may apply to have the matter adjudicated by an independent expert panel.
The panels will be selected from the pool of experts on a case by case basis. This pool will also help form disciplinary panels, if the need arises.
More information about the alternative dispute resolution process and how to put forward an expression of interest to be part of the pool of experts can be found on the CBOS website www.cbos.tas.gov.au.
