As Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, it was my pleasure to officially open Women’s Legal Service Tasmania’s (WLST) new office in Launceston today.
The new office was made possible due to our Government’s increased resources for the legal assistance sector in Tasmania, that enable organisations such as the WLST to provide free or low cost legal services for Tasmanians in need.
The new, larger office space will accommodate the increased number of staff the WLST now has based in Launceston, which includes four legal practitioners, a financial counsellor, a social worker and the Chief Executive Officer.
WLST provides an important service for Tasmanian women in legal proceedings, providing legal advice and ensuring access to justice for Tasmanian women, particularly those experiencing or at risk of family violence.
Our Government is grateful for the exceptional work undertaken by the legal assistance sector in Tasmania and I congratulate the WLST on the opening of their new fit for purpose premises, and I look forward to them helping vulnerable Tasmanians into the future.
Elise Archer, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
